NVIDIA To Release Dual-GPU GK110-Based Graphics Card? Maxwell Due 1Q2014

As AMD readies their upcoming Hawaii-based graphics cards for release in October, NVIDIA has been quietly working on a new ultra high-end graphics card. Sources are keeping their lips pretty tightly shut, but the card will either be the GeForce GTX TITAN ULTRA using a fully unlocked GK110 GPU or a GeForce GTX 790 featuring two slightly crippled GK110 GPUs as currently seen in the GeForce GTX 780.

As the fully unlocked GK110 is currently reserved for the professional segments where margins are high, the logical assumption would be that NVIDIA is planning to release a monstrous dual GPU. Regardless of the case, the price is projected to be around the US $1,000 mark which will in turn push down the current GeForce GTX TITAN/700 series pricing.

However, this card will be a stop-gap as Maxwell-based GeForce 800 series cards are expected to arrive as soon as February or March of 2014. As TSMC isn’t expected to have production of 20 nm-based silicon ramped up until June 2014, Maxwell will probably stay on the same 28 nm process as GK110. Source — VideoCardz
