While AMD is yet to release its dual GPU offering, the Radeon HD 7990 spoken about yesterday, AIB (add-in board) partners are gearing up with their own custom designed dual GPU cards using two “Tahiti” core Radeon HD 7970s. Much like the PowerColor HD 7970 X2 Devil 13 seen recently, the HIS offering is powered by three 8-pin PCIe power connectors and the two GPUs are linked together by an internal CrossFire bridge chip. Clock speeds are not yet known, but the cooler used is the new tri-slot version of its IceQ X2 custom cooler.

The card features a 100 % custom PCB designed by HIS, and display connectivity is taken care of by a single dual-link DVI port and four mini-DisaplyPort connectors. Pricing is not yet known, and the release date is said to be earlier than PowerColor’s offering which is scheduled for launch is the later part of July, which would make the HIS Radeon HD 7970 X2 IceQ the world’s first dual HD 7970 graphics card.
