Corsair iCUE 465X RGB Review

Conclusion

Corsair’s iCUE 465X RGB is one tough case to critique. For one, despite it’s more budget leanings it actually makes tangible strides over Corsair’s previous outings. I do like the better breathing room towards the front of the case. I also appreciate the side glass panel sitting flush against the chassis. The front glass panel is also a lot easier to remove so cleaning out the dust filter is a breeze, unlike on the Crystal Series 680X.

In real terms, the 465X RGB may be a lot easier to live with than many cases from Corsair and competitors. For the price point, at least initially, few cases offer as much as this one.

What is essentially the largest short coming of this case, is not related to the chassis design or anything of the sort. It’s undermined by the Lighting Node Core. What is supposed to be a benefit ends up presenting you with half a solution. Again, I think the case would be better off with two models. Perhaps an SE version at $250~ or R3,300 with a proper Fan-RGB hub controller and an additional LL120 RGB exhaust Fan. Against a regular version without the lighting controller and RGB fans, but four uni-colour or none RGB fans. Naturally the RGB brand would have to go away, but it would be interesting to find out how many would  buy this case specifically because it has “RGB” in the name.

So, this is a chassis that’s neither value orientated or customization focused. I am perhaps pining on this fan hub/RGB situation too much. However, having to deal with so much cabling and still require more for what I consider mandatory functionality is rather odd, let alone the exhaust fan situation. Overall I would say buy this case prepared to spend a bit more than list price. If you’re ready for that commitment, the iCUE 465X RGB will more than impress you.
