CORSAIR Force MP600 Review

Conclusion

Initially, the Force MP600 entered the market or was rather introduced at $249,99, but by the time this review was finalized it had dropped to $229,99 making it one of the cheapest M.2 drives with this configuration. Add the 5-year warranty and 1.8PBW endurance and this drive offers a pretty great deal at this price point.

In as much as I’m convinced by the value proposition of the Force MP600, it isn’t without what I would consider oversights. The heatsink mainly. Yes, I understand that there may be cost implications in making it removable. That however, doesn’t make figuring out where/how to install this drive any more fun. As stated, most mid to high end boards integrate these heatsinks as part of a larger cooling assembly. Being able to remove the heat sink, would make this a no brainer. As it is, some boards may have to forgo their chipset fan cover in order to accommodate this drive’s heat sink.

Temperature with the Force MP600 is another thing to be aware of. Thermal throttling is not something you’re likely to come across as all but the drive does though get toasty if there’s no air flow over it. Make sure there’s some moving air around it and that’s it really. It may not help the life of the drive in any way, but it’s a lot more comfortable looking at a 58’C under load than 70’C.

Overall, this is pretty much exactly what I expected the drive to be. Going from the Force MP510 to the MP600 is unlikely to make any meaningful difference in your everyday use cases. The performance while easily measurable, remains largely academic. PCMark8’s storage test, even reported the Force MP510 and the Force MP600 as being equal (well within expected result deviation).

I guess in many ways, the Force MP600 makes the Force MP510 look even better, as it is even cheaper but in real world terms offers the same performance. Then again, this sort of thing is for enthusiasts, and the utility of these components is sometimes if not often secondary to just the notion of using the fastest drives on the fastest interconnect available today. This performance, at this price, together with such a long warranty makes this one an easy one to recommend.
