AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Futermark results

As expected, the Ryzen 7 3800X tops the scores in both PCMark10 and 3DMark. Note the massive advantage the 3800X has over the older Ryzen 7 2700. It literally is a generational leap in performance. PCMark10 generally doesn’t respond well to any one part update and by and large CPU performance differences are muted. This time however it is quite clear just how much better then 3rd generation CPUs are over their predecessors. Concerning 3DMark, there’s not much to say but that the Ryzen 7 3800X is light years ahead of the 2nd generation Ryzen 7 2700.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X – Gaming Performance

Depending on the game, the Ryzen 7 3800X unexpectedly outperforms an overclocked 5GHz core i5 9600K. Granted, so too would a Core i9 9900K. The point here however is that the clock frequency advantage of current INTEL CPUs isn’t enough to offset, the IPC gains and moderate frequency gains AMD has made.

This wasn’t previously the case as the older Ryzen 7 2700, regardless of clock frequency, couldn’t match a standard Core i5 9600K. Things have improved quite dramatically. While the Core series CPUs overall have a gaming performance advantage, it is rather small. At the very least I don’t think it’s enough to make a meaningful difference in gaming, especially as the display resolutions scale. for the competitive gamer however looking for as high a frame rate as possible, INTEL may still be your best bet, for everyone else well…
