Cooler Master MM710 Gaming Mouse Review

Using the Mouse

The weight of a mouse is very subjective, as are most factors when it coming to selecting a device. Personally, I’ve always preferred a heavy mouse. A mouse needs to feel solid, but it also needs to glide easily. It needs to require minimum force to move around, but have plenty of momentum. Consequently, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect reviewing an ultra light weight mouse. Part of me was expecting to dislike the Cooler Master MM710 immensely. Boy, was I wrong.

The software was extremely intuitive to use (other manufacturers should really take notes here), and setup of the mouse was completed within less than a minute. Lift-off distance is extremely low at around 2mm. This further helps with accuracy, and we saw no tracking errors whatsoever in the week of use. The Cooler Master MM710 was consistently accurate and precise, and sweat levels were kept to a minimum even after extended use.

Quake III Arena might be as old as the hills, but it requires precise and accurate aim. As such, it is our go-to for game testing. Hitscan weapons, no recoil and very little bullet spray put emphasis on your aim. I played three rounds of the same map on Nightmare difficulty using my personal choice of mouse and finished with an average score of 20-15 in my favour. I then played three rounds with the MM710, which resulted in an average score of 20-11 in my favour. It’s impossible for me to put into words, but the rapid response of the mouse made it almost feel as if frags were happening in slow motion.

Oops. I really didn’t want to like this mouse, as the weight feels strange to me. However, I gave it the most fair chance possible, and got a result I didn’t expect.
