ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro 512 GB SSD Review

Benchmarks – Crystal Disk Mark & PCMark8

The XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro continues to do very well in read performance, coming very close to the Corsair when testing using Crystal Disk Mark. Write performance is once again lower, but still more than you’re likely to need with any PCI-Express Gen3 system.

This is where things got a little more interesting. I was thinking it may be time to drop PCMark8’s storage test, as it doesn’t seem to reflect what the other benchmarks do. That said, it occurred to me that PCMark8’s test is by far the longest in the suit, and is supposed to stress the drive in many more varied scenarios than the other benchmarks. In essence testing general PC use and representing a more meaningful score, as opposed to a very narrow test case. These near identical scores rang true to my subjective analysis as well, which is that I can’t tell the difference in everyday use between these two drives.

In addition, PCMark8 stresses the drive for quite a long time, so heat can become an issue for many drives. There is a strong possibility that this is the reason for the gap between the drives narrowing, as the Corsair doesn’t have a heatsink.
