GIGABYTE AERO 15 CLASSIC-XA Review

Physical Characteristics

The first thing you’ll notice in the big brown box is a grey backpack with orange accents and a GIGABYTE M6880 mouse. Neither of these are worth writing home about, so we’ll skip to the laptop itself. Taking the GIGABYTE AERO 15 CLASSIC-XA out of the box, you’re greeted by a fairy standard looking laptop. Unlike many others, there are no flashy colours or designs that scream “gaming laptop.” The logo lights up white, and there is a triangular carbon fibre finish along the bottom edge of the lid. Externally, nothing about the laptop says that it is anything more than a standard business machine.

On the right of the laptop are two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and an SD card reader. Additionally, the power jack is on this side. Moving over to the left you will find a USB Type-C port which supports DisplayPort 1.4, an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, an RJ45 port for Gigabit ethernet, and a single audio jack. The front and back of the laptop are void of connectors.

Opening the laptop, there is a full keyboard including numpad. It isn’t quite full size, as the block of keys that include Home, End, Delete, etc have been moved to a single strip above the numpad. This has allowed for the full keyboard on a 15.6″ laptop with a near bezel-less design screen. Consequently, the arrow keys have been squashed between the rest of the keys and the numpad. This is something that will take some getting used to, but shouldn’t take more than a day or two. All keys are independently backlit with full RGB lighting, which can be controlled via GIGABYTE RGB Fusion.
