ASUS is currently working on another iteration of the Republic of Gamers Rampage IV Extreme motherboard, identical in all aspects other than coloring. Not everyone appreciates the bright red accents seen on the standard Rampage IV Extreme, as it may clash with the color theme used throughout the rest of their computer (or even their NVIDIA graphics card). This board has been made in very limited quantities as a market research project by ASUS.

ROG Rampage IV Extreme Black. We made a few of these for a small project so this board will not go on sale. But what do you think, are motherboards in all black color theme something you would like? Or is there any other combination of colors you prefer? – ASUS ROG Nordic on Facebook

Keeping the use of red to an absolute minimum, the Rampage IV Extreme Black contrasts its black PCB with shades of dark grey used for the memory and PCI-Express slots. The coloring could suggest that ASUS would be (aesthetically) aiming this board at EVGA’s X79 Dark motherboard, or even trying to beat the it as the ASUS board makes even less use of red than its EVGA counterpart.

As with the standard Rampage IV Extreme, the Black is based on the Intel X79 Express chipset with support for Intel Core i7 processors using the LGA2011 socket. The eight DIMM slots support up to 64 GB of DDR3 memory running in quad-channel, and the PCI-Express x16 slots allow for up to four-way SLI or CrossFire operation. Source — Cowcotl@nd
